Baltimore Research & Education Network (BERnet)

Draft of "Client DWDM" channel plan spreadsheet.

Per the May 07 discussions of the BERnet engineering group, people agreed that instead of fixed channel allocations per participant, we would register the colors planned and implemented to avoid wasting slots. So each of the participating dark fiber paths that has a pair of 40 channel filters is represented by a letter. The 660 Redwood Street - 6 St Paul segment constrains the color choices to/from JHMI, 300 West Lexington (Level3 pop) and Morgan, but not JHU, Sailor, and UMBC. So 5 channels each through 6 St Paul have been preallocated for those location participants. These channels can be traded as needed.

To use, look on the the Span Allocation Capacity Planner tab for a free color starting from high numbers down for intraregional connections. There is a sample JMI-JHU one listed. Fill out an A-Z Path Allocation tab entry inc contact name and request date, and send the updated spreadsheet to the BERnet engineering list email. We will update the web page version. This reserves the channel slot. Then when you get the XFPs in and bring up the circuit, send email so that the spreadsheet can be updated with that info as well to know the color reservation has been used.
